Overview
UCL presents the Research Excellence Scholarship (UCL-RES), a distinguished initiative designed to attract exceptional scholars to embark on doctoral research at UCL. With the aim of fostering academic brilliance, this prestigious scholarship is set to offer up to 40 fully funded opportunities to outstanding applicants from across the globe, encompassing both prospective and current UCL doctoral students.

The UCL Research Excellence Scholarship (RES) encompasses a comprehensive package, covering full fees (applicable to both UK and Overseas students), a maintenance stipend for the standard research period, and research costs. The selection criteria hinge on academic merit, requiring candidates to have achieved at least a 2:1 at the undergraduate level or its equivalent.

Eligibility and Application Process
To be eligible to apply for the UCL-RES scholarship, candidates must have submitted a completed admission application to, or currently be registered on, an eligible full- or part-time degree program at UCL by the scholarship deadline. Additionally, applicants should hold or be expected to achieve at least an upper second-class Honours UK undergraduate degree or its equivalent. Successful candidates are required to be in receipt of an offer of admission to, or be currently registered on, a full-time or part-time research degree program at UCL.

Deadline
The deadline for submitting applications for the UCL-RES scholarship is Friday, 12 January 2024. Successful candidates will be notified once the selection process is complete, with notifications sent directly to the deserving scholars.

Value, Benefits, and Duration
The UCL-RES scholarship stands out for its comprehensive support, encompassing full fees (applicable to both Home and Overseas students), a maintenance stipend, and additional research costs. The maintenance stipend is tailored to the standard length of the research portion of the program, increasing annually with inflation. For the academic year 2023/24, the stipend for full-time study is £20,622, with the rate for 2024/25 to be confirmed. Furthermore, the scholarship includes additional research costs of up to £1,200 per year for the entire duration of the research portion of the program, providing scholars with the necessary resources to excel in their academic pursuits.
