Overview
The Archaeology of Portugal Fellowship is available to support research and studies for both archaeologists and archaeology graduate students, whether conducted in Portugal or the United States. For non-Portuguese applicants, the fellowship enables research on topics related to the archaeology of Portugal, including the Azores and Madeira Autonomous Regions. Conversely, Portuguese applicants have the flexibility to utilize the fellowship for research and study in any archaeological region and on any topic in the United States.
Eligibility criteria for Portuguese applicants holding Ph.D. degrees include a requirement of being AIA members in good standing for at least one year at the time of application. Additionally, Portuguese graduate students aiming to pursue studies in the United States must be enrolled in or accepted by an accredited U.S. university or college, with evidence of authorization for travel and study in the U.S.
